Build shared trust.
As in life, never blast a new friend with "Nice to meet you and by the way join my amazing fabulous one-time opportunity!"
Who would behave that way at a dinner party? People will bolt like a rabbit from a wolf, and with good reason!
First, if you do not already have a Facebook account, register now at Facebook. It's free!
1) Your Facebook profile is your first step - magnetize it!
Don't hide. Show who you are!
Provide colorful information to paint a portrait of the well-rounded and vital person you are, and the life you have.
Add a great profile photo of yourself, not your business logo.
Use your name. People trust people, not products.
In your Info section, create a sparkling short bio of your personality and values. Include life outside of your business. Nothing controversial - this is not the forum for heated subjects that alienate some people.
Add photos of your life, pets, vacations, hobbies. What is your mission in life? What do you really want the world to know about who you are?
Resist the urge to sell your business! Your "Like Page," and your personal blog will do that. We will talk about these in other posts.
Blog and Twitter links go here. Before joining someone in business, we want to know, like and trust them. Anyone can offer an opportunity - only you can offer you.
Show your business acumen on your blog. Show yourself on Facebook.
2) How to find friends the right way.
In the search box at the top of your profile page, type in subjects you are interested in. A drop down list will appear. At the bottom, click on "See More Results."
On the left now will be a menu with the choice, "groups." Click on that. Now all you see are groups.
Select groups of personal interest or expertise, or those devoted to or likely to have members interested in your business field.
Click on the Like Button. Now you can read the posts on the group's wall.
Look through the posts to see if it appears the group admin monitors the quality of this group. Don't join those that are just for link spam or have posts of questionable content.
If you don't think the group is right for you, click on "Leave Group" on the right side of the group page.
When you find a group you like, then you will request a friend connect with the admin(s) by clicking on their name to navigate to their profile page.
Have several short introduction notes written and saved in a text file on your desktop. Notepad is excellent for this.
Click on "Add As Friend," then on "Send Message" and paste your message. Example, "Hello Ann, I just joined your group on professional freelance writing, and I am sure I will get a lot of benefit from being a member. I enjoy connecting with people of similar interests and I would like to be your Facebook friend." Sign your name. The personal note sets you apart.
Craft many different notes and alternate among them. BE GENUINE!
Thank them personally on their Wall when they add you.
Add up to 25 friends a day (NO MORE) without alerting the FB spambots. Don't risk losing your account.
"This takes time!" It does. You are building your connections, the crucial element of your business, the best use of your time.
3) How To Meet New People on Facebook - Look at your groups' members profiles (upper right side of page):
Send friend invitations to members who have similar interests
See if their profiles show interest in meeting other Facebook members - a friendly open profile with a nice number of friends.
Repeat the same process of writing the personal note and ALWAYS use their name.
Example: Hi Dave, I see we are both members of Chris Farrell's Like page. I enjoy connecting with like-minded people and I would enjoy being your Facebook friend." Then sign your name.
Again, keep count and don't add more than 25 friends per day.
4) Friend Requests to you. After you reach a certain number of friends, and IF! you have created a rich and friendly profile, you will start to get requests from others.
Thank them on their wall, and use names.
You can accept an unlimited number of friend requests.
Before long your list will bloom and people will begin to know and seek you out.
5) Post on your wall, and your new groups' and friends' walls regularly.
As you get into the rhythm of building your Facebook community, and do think of it as that...you will develop a daily routine you will come to enjoy. Soon others will come to know you for the positive value you offer, a bright spot in their day. And you will shine as the leader you were born to be!
Post every day on your Wall. It can be something about your pet, the weather, a song you found, or a short goodie about your business, but no selling!!!
Participate! Get yourself out there and let people get to know you.
Post regularly on groups' and friends' Walls. Use names. Join in. Comment and like others posts.
You may close with a link to your blog, or Like page, but WEEK ON and WEEK OFF with this! Do Not Spam!!!
Post links to your blog articles to offer help. Always offer value!
Never ever be negative, or criticize anyone. This is not the place for controversy or conflict.
